Osteopath not guilty of using excessive force on patient

This case concerned an allegation that the osteopath had “dropped his full body weight” on patient A and continued to treat the patient against her wishes and whilst she was crying.

This kind of allegation is not uncommon in manual therapy as many patients are surprised by the speed or amount of force sometimes needed to perform certain techniques.

In this particular case the Committee decided that the osteopath had gained the appropriate consent and explained the risk and methods of treatment properly to the patient.
